Mors Principium Est pour l'album "The Unborn"

Interview

Mors Principium Est pour l'album "The Unborn" Entretien avec Jori (guitare) (2005)
1. First, could you please introduce your band to our readers, your main influences and the style which could best define your music ?

Mors principium est is a band founded in 1999 and we play some form of melodic death metal influenced mainly by the Gothenburg genre among many other musical styles.

2. To my mind the sound is much modern and very atmospheric, the new young talented keyboardist is involved ? What are the other differences compared to « Inhumanity » ?

Joona got involved with the band in the very late stage of the album writing process, and hasn’t been involved in music writing too much yet, although we are very satisfied with his work so far.
I think the main tone of the album is a lot darker than Inhumanity and the sound is also more aggressive.
But like you said the main difference is the modern style the music has gotten.

3. How does the writing process goes?

99% of the time I make the music and Ville makes the lyrics and fits them to the song. Then we record demos and listen to them if we can find some changes to make it sound better.
On the Unborn also Jarkko wrote one song and that song is Fragile flesh.

4. Is there a tour planed to promote your new album?

Yes we are planning all kinds of stuff but one sure thing is that we’ll head to U.S for minitour to BWBK 6-pack in May.

5. What do you do for a living apart from the band?

I’m still studying in the local musical conservatory and the only one of us who actually has a job is our drummer Mikko. He runs a transportation business.

6. What is the best (an the worst) memory you have from your musician’s life?

Well one of the finest moments was when I received the information that we had been offered a record contract by Listenable records,I didn’t get much sleep the next night.
The worst must have been the tour with Crown here in Finland because all my gear went broken all the time and I really couldn’t trust anything to keep together.

7. What do you think of your french label Listenable Records ? French people are helpful ?

Yes they are, We are very fond of Listenable because they don’t force us to anything and we get to do what we want. They are also very supportive and respect their artists.

8. What do you think of the metal scene ? How do you think it will evolve in the few years, and how would you like it to evolve?

I think heavy music is finally getting the acceptance of the common people as a real music style.
Few years ago here in finland older people used to be scared if they saw young people dressed in
black but now the attitude has changed completely and metal is considered as chartmusic.
I myself hope that the popularity of metal would increase even more and in every country because the genre holds some real talent inside.

9. If you could organise your own metal festival, whose bands would be invited?

Hmm, I don’t know , there are so many bands that I would like to see live that it’s hard to name any specific.
But I’ve always wanted to see how Meshuggah copes with their music live, so I guess they could be one of the headliners…

10. What are you listening to these days? Any good metal / non metal albums to recommand?

Bjorks Medullah is really great and Mars Voltas Deloused in the comatorium is still one of my all time favorites, haven’t had the time to listen to Frances the mute yet but I’m sure it’s one of the best releases this year too.
Metalwise I really liked Haunteds Revolver, and the new Mnemic is great too.

11. If you could change something in this fucked up world, really anything you want, what would you choose?

Hmm what a question 
I’ll refer to the current headlines and hope that the new pope would crawl back to where he came from.

12. The reviews for « The Unborn » are in general excellent or very good, it motivates you to keep going, isn’t it ?

Absolutely, It’s always nice to know that our doings are liked.
Still I myself don’t really take advice from our reviews too much because one never knows how musically able person has reviewed the album. Of course most of them know what they are speaking of but some don’t have a clue.

13. Last words are yours!

Thank you for the interview and have a hell of a summer!
