1. Hi! At first, can you present the band to our readers?
Hi everybody!!! NahemaH is a Spanish band placed in Alicante, the band is ten years old and we play a kind of experimental/progressive/eclectic metal. Now our new record label Lifeforce Records released our new album “The Second Philosophy”.
2. In France, there's a black metal band called Nehëmah, which is very close to your band's name. Do you know this band? Where does the name Nahemah come from?
We don't know the music but we know that exist...
There are some bands using a same meaning name with a different pronunciation. It comes from the babylon mythology. Was the Sumerian dark beauty and perversion goddess.
3. In the early years, I read that you used to play symphonic black metal. Can you tell us more about this part of your story and what do you think of your previous releases today?
We started playing darker music than now. Our music has been evolutioned since then, now we look back and we see our older works less professional than our new cd but they still being with a quality composition.
4. "The Second Philosophy" comes after a silence of almost 6 years. What happened to the band after "Chrysalis"?
After the “Chrysalis” we recorded in 2003 an unreleased EP called “The last human”, after that we had a lot of line up problems and the ban was almost dissolved… to reconstruct the band looking for the perfect members and composing the new album took us all this time...
5. How would you define your music today and what are your main influences to your mind?
As I said before we play a kind of experimental/progressive/eclectic metal. We have a lot of influences, mainly Swedish melodic death metal, experimental rock, post metal/post hardcore, stoner rock, some dark pop bands, and electronic music (electro, drum & bass, deep, minimal...), but we don't “copy and paste” all that styles in order to compose a song, if you combine them as puzzle pieces you will only get a copy of a band, style or sound. To compose we only use the feelings that cause inside us all music styles we like and we show our own point of view with our musical language.
6. What can we expect from "The Second Philosophy "? Do you have a favourite song?
You will find a very varied cd. In this cd you will find music for al lot of states of mind, you'll find sadness, happiness, love, hate, etc....
Is very difficult to choose a favourite song, but i would say that “Nothing” is one of my favourites.
7. Listening to this new album, I found that some black metal elements remained in your music like some vocals or keyboards parts. Do you think that way? Do you think it is something deeply rooted in your music?
Well, you will listen now a more modern music with “other” style influences ouside metal music, but of course, our origins are extreme music and we don't want to forget them, we want to keep this essence inside our music.
8. Can you tell us more about the title of the album and the lyrics? Where does your inspiration come from?
The lyrics are written with a metaphoric concept about life and human feelings. Are atemporal and impersonal because themes talk about feelings that could happen whoever, whenever, wherever.
Lyrics are written after the music is composed and the inspiration is taken from the impressions that cause the melodies of the song to write about.
9. I found the artwork very careful and close to the atmosphere of your music. Who created it and had he listened to the album before realising it?
The cd artwork was created by Daniel Gil, he was a former member of NahemaH, so he was the perfect person to design our artwork because he knows perfectly the concept and the aesthetical vision we have.
10. Finally, was it hard to lead this album to an end and to find a new label?
Was really hard to find a record label. “The Second Philosophy” was totally recorded months ago we signed with Lifeforce Records. We sent about of 250 promo packs all around the world and Lifeforce was one of the few labels that answered us.
11. Is there a tour to promote this new album? Do you envisage to come to France?
At the moment we have not any tour plans. Bookings will start soon and we hope to play on French stages as soon as possible.
12. What do you do for a living apart from the band?
We try to manage and hold our normal life with our jobs combining music, is very hard, because at the moment we don't live as professional musicians but we have to perform and behave like them on stages and in cd's.
13. What are you listening to these days? Any good metal (or not metal) albums to recommend?
Now I'm listening a lot of electronic music and post/hardcore-post/metal (IAMX, Shora, Isis, Callisto, Cult of luna, Red Sparrowes....) but never forgetting new stuff from death melodic or rock bands.
14. There are not a lot of well-known Spanish metal bands but in 2 weeks, I discovered another good one: As Light Dies. Do you know their music? How is the Spanish metal scene today?
I've never heard about them.....
Here in Spain metal scene is really poor...There is a well organized metal-scene in Spain but is only in a national level, inside our frontiers, is a very closed market because you are more accepted if you sing in Spanish and do what labels say to do, if you don't you are out. We can't talk of a well organized international metal-scene in Spain because simply it doesn't exist. Spanish musicians' mentality mostly have always been looking to a national market than to an international market.
15. Thank you for the interview and I wish you the best for the future. The last words are yours!
Thanks a lot for this interview and we hope to go to visit and play for the French audience soon, KEEP ON METAL!
