1. Hi! At first, could you present the band and sum up your carrier so far for those who don't know you yet?
Hell-o! Band was formed in the end of year 1998. All were based on a friendship and the meaning was just having fun together (Mikko Heikkilä, guitar/vocals, Jarno Uski, bass and Miika Hostikka, drums. Tommi was joined to the band just before our fourth demo recordings. Our fourth self-released promo Follow Into the Cry was the main thing to start corporate with Napalm Records. So, our debut album A New Day was released through the Napalm Records in january 2006. We are still quite unknown band here in finland, so most of the comments and feedbacks are coming from foreign countries... mostly from countries in Europe. So far we´ve done many interviews and also I have seen many great reviews about the album. We also have been chosen The New Comer of the Month in Orkus magazine in Germany. MTV and few other bigger channels have played our musicvideo from the song Darkness of Day... Have to say that we are very pleased what we´ve acchieved so far.
2. How would you define your music and what are your influences?
In many reviews they have compared our music to Sentenced and ToDieFor, but I don´t see that way. If you play our album again and again you´ll see what I mean. Style is mixed of metal and rock with very melacholic influences and atmosphere. Once one old person said to me; Your sound is very depressive and full of sadness... More defining our influences, that´s all coming from ordinary human life and the dark side of it.
3. You've just released your first album "A New Day". What can we expect from it?
Emotionaly depressive songs and melacholic atmophere all over the album. Dark stories of life, loneliness and sadness. The record, it´s not too melacholic and there are many things and melodies to catch on and first of all many great songs with few suprises an by that I mean Tuomas Saukkonen (Before the Dawn). He´s growling on one of our songs called Drama or two. In my oponion it is very well success. Just a great record to lead you through this season of cold and darkness.
4. What do you like in it? Do you have a favorite song?
Speaking for myself, that´s wholeness. I had some doubts about few songs, so the result is more than I ever even could thought... First album, and I think we made it well. Songs like Drama for Two and Misery Carnival I like the most. Memorable melodies and... Something very personal in it.
5. How spent the writing process and how long did it last?
This album is like our whole history. Far back where we started from to this point. On album there are many older songs like Sleeping Away (demo recorded -02) and three totally new songs. We were signed with one small japanese indie label and we had some problems, so that made our journey much more longer and harder than we expected. But I can´t wait for writing new songs...
6. Was it hard to lead this first album to an end? How spent the collaboration with Napalm Records?
Not exactly. After we signed a contract with Napalm Records, we spend about two weeks in studio to make the recordings complete. Even it would be better to record vocals in more than two and half days. Better “luck” next time. With Napalm, not a single thing to complaining about. I´m very proud to prepresent them and I hope it will continue...
7. Is there a tour planed to promote your new album?
We´ve been talking about going on tour to europe with some other bands, but the things around are still wide open... just have to wait and see what´s gonna happen. Really hoping or it... In finland we have shows but nothing more at this moment.
8. What do you do for a living apart from the band?
We all having our jobs, so work after work. We are working on timber area and Tommi is the only one who´s studing (don´t ask me what?) And all the weekends we are practising and having “fun” together... Fighting after twelve beers...
9. What are you listening to these days? Any good metal (or not metal) albums to recommend?
I don´t have any certain band what I´m listening but bands like Amorphis, In Flames, Soilwork and Eternal Tears of Sorrow are now on my playlist. First I didn´t like the Amorphis, Eclipse but playing it couple times I think it´s an excellent album. New singer Tomi Joutsen is really tallented and the songs are something that I can´t even put on words. Amorphis, Eclipse highly recommended!!
10. What is your opinion concerning the metal webzines? Are you a reader of them? How do you evaluate the impact of such magazines, compared to "real" magazines?
I like just suffring on the internet and every day I try to find something new. Almost every day I go someones metalwebzine, but I have to admit it´s more comfortable to read someting real magazine and just laying on the sofa.
11. What is your position about downloading? Do you think it's a chance or a curse for a new band like yours?
I personally don´t support that, but yes I think it brigs many new fans and listeners for our band. It´s easier way to find music even from those bands who´s still quite unknown... But I don´t fight against downloading, everyone should make their own choices.
12.Thanx for the interview. The last words are yours!
At first, THANK YOU and all the readers please feel free to visit our official site http://www.sinamore.com/ with your wishes. Never fear to be affraid, still somewhere there´s a hope that further keeps crying for you. Do not miss the album!
