Khold pour l'album "Krek"

Interview

Khold pour l'album "Krek" Entretien avec Sarke (batterie) (2005)
1. First, could you introduce your band to our readers?

Khold is a band from Norway. Formed in 2000. We play cold, dark, mid-pace black metal. Picked up a deal with Moonfog and released our debut album “Masterpiss of pain” in 2001. Follow up with “Phantom” in 2002. Phantom was nominated for best metal. “Mørke gravers kammer” was released by Candlelight in 2004, also nominated for best metal album. We have also done 4 tours in Norway and Europe. Now our new album “Krek” in out through Tabu.

2. "Krek" is your 4th album in only 5 years of existence! What can we expect from it and what does it make you write music so fast?

A raw new Khold album. Same style of music, but a different sound and different songs of course. This time every member has made songs and that’s good. I don’t think I write so fast. 1 year is a long time.

3. How spent the writing process and the recording of this new album?

I sit by myself and make songs with an acoustic guitar. Try to create darkness through music. Inspired by the work of Kittelsen. The recording went ok. We used about 3 weeks in the evening. We just put up our gear and record the tracks.

4. Despite a very modern sound, your style remains raw and direct. Is it the way you think the black metal should sound?

I don’t think so much about that. I guess true black metal should sound more necro like “Under a funeral moon” or something. But we want a heavy, raw, clear sound.

5. What means "Krek"? Can you explain the concept of this album?

“Krek” is a poor creature, someone abandoned, forsaken and forgotten. The concept is about that, death and old Norwegian myths.

6. Contrary to a lot of black metal productions, the artwork of "Krek" is very careful. Is it important for you?

Yes, its important that everything match together. Dark music, dark art.

7. What are your influences and the bands you listen today? Any good albums to share?

Our inspiration is the Norwegian painter “Kittelsen” and the lyric of “Hildr”. Good albums… Slayer albums, Darkthrone ”Transylvanian hunger”, Obituary, Candlemass “ Tales of creation”

8. Is there a tour planed to promote your new album?

Yes, we are working on a European tour now in November/December and a tour in Norway early next year.

9. What do you think of the actual black metal scene? Do you feel a part of it?

I think its good, I most say I feel a part of it. The scene is much bigger now than before, but that’s just a natural thing in time.

10. What is your position about downloading? Do you download music sometimes, to discover new bands for example?

I do it sometimes when I want to check out stuff, but very little. Maybe 10 songs a year. I don’t think much about it because I cant do anything about it anyway.

11. Thanks for your time. The last words are yours!
