The Elysian Fields pour l'album "Suffering GOD Almighty" Entretien avec celui que vous préférez (2005)
1. First, could you please introduce your band to our readers; your main influences and the style, which could best define your music?
The Elysian Fields have been around for 10 years. We have released 3 albums thus far and just a few days ago our new 4th cd entitled “Suffering G.O.D. Almighty” just hit the market. There are no main influences to be exact. Whatever messes with our heads is being transformed through our arrangements and given to you as a TEF ‘s effort! This might include diverse elements from various kinds of music, yet that s how we operate! Sure, one can find the basics and values of metal, however we have a tendency to combine them a whole lot different than others do! We are basically a death metal band, which experiments with keyboards more than u imagine! This time we have gone further.
2. What can we expect from your new album compared to the previous ones?
We have matured quite since our past works. Tight structures and heavy riffing along with some intense dancing keyboards is to be expected in “S.G.O.D.A”. However, the familiar TEF ‘s aggressive sounds are always appreciated and honoured by us! Our last effort “12 Ablaze” as well as “ We… The Enlightened” were more like a straightforward death black along with atmospheric parts. Now you can expect some controversial blending and experimentation in the electronics sections! Samples and keys dominate the album!
3. How does the writing process go?
We usually take a lot of time after a release, until we get together and have a look at the new stuff. Perhaps that allows some new influences to take place in us. When we feel we are ready, we gather and put our ideas together. Then we have the first looks in how our style has evolved and whether this should fit as the new TEF work. If we fancy it, we proceed. Then the decision on what is to keep is taken and the elements that don’t fit into it get dumped. The bases are consisted by the keys along with the guitars! We build the rest of the songs around them!
4. Is there a tour planed to promote your new album?
We haven ‘t played live since our formation and this ain ‘t going to change now!
5. What do you do for a living apart from the band?
This doesn’t concern any of you. Unfortunately, music does not give us what we need in order to survive. I d be a blissful man if that could happen!
6. What is the best (and the worst) memory you have from your musician’s life?
The best is when you see your efforts being published! Every time we have a cd out, it s like a great achievement for me! It feels great knowing that the things you like, where you have put yourself in, gets the chance to shine . The fact that there are probably some others out there who are going to love it as much as you do!
The worst experience is to get fucked by your record company, as they always fail to keep their promises.
7. Do you know the French metal scene? What do you think of it?
No, I m not aware of nowadays French metal idiom. I use to have many friends from your country, which my limited spare time took away from me! I really get angry when that happens! I don t even know what is going on with the Greek scene…
8. The same question goes for the metal scene as a whole. How do you think it will evolve in the few years, and how would you like it to evolve?
I m not the kind of person you would depend on, concerning your briefing on how things look these days or even turn out in a few years from now on! I feel like there is a need that will change our perspective. New elements, some new blood, fresh ideas should be brought forth. I have no problem with modernistic concepts and new designs as far as aggression is not being harmed!!!
9. What are you listening to these days? Any good metal / non metal albums to recommand?
I m studying on some patterns the latest “Prodigy” album is offering. I am also having some looks on “Killswitch Engage” in general and the new “Judas Priest” as well.
10. If you could change something in this fucked up world, really anything you want, what would you choose?
Easy one. I would wipe out humanity! The race of the thousand plagues…
11. This interview is made for a French webzine (http://www.thrashocore.com). Any good / bad comments to make about this (be careful :p)?
Actually, you are one of the few who seem to appreciate our music in your country. According to some colleagues of yours, we should keep repeating the same things and practically never evolve! We are miscreants for them. I m truly grateful I can diversify myself from such people. Oh well, everybody has a view... Gratitude goes to you for the honour and the hosting.
